How to Tell If Your Headlights Need Professional Restoration

If the cloudiness is on the outside of the lens and doesn't wipe away, it's oxidation — the condition professional restoration addresses. Condensation inside the housing is a different problem entirely.
Check whether it's inside or outside
Run a clean, damp cloth over the lens. If the haze stays and the surface feels slightly rough rather than smooth, the degradation is on the outer surface. If you see water droplets or fogging on the inside of the lens, that's a sealing issue, and restoration won't solve it.
Signs restoration is worth pursuing
Look at the vehicle in daylight, from a few feet back.
- Yellow, amber or brown tint across the lens
- Chalky white film that dulls reflections
- Visible pitting or fine scratching
- Mismatched clarity between left and right
Signs you need something else
Cracks, internal moisture, a dulled reflector inside the housing, or broken mounting hardware all point to replacement rather than restoration.
