When Should You Restore Cloudy Headlights?

The practical answer is once you can see the haze in daylight from a normal standing distance. Waiting longer generally means deeper oxidation and more surface material to remove.
Early signs worth acting on
Hazing tends to creep. Owners often stop noticing it because the change is gradual — until they see the same model with clear lenses parked next to theirs.
- A faint amber cast along the top of the lens
- Reflections that look diffused rather than sharp
- Light output that seems softer at night than it used to be
Why waiting costs more
As the coating fails, the plastic underneath oxidizes further and the surface can begin to pit. The deeper that damage goes, the more work restoration requires — and at some point the lens is beyond what refinishing can address.
